Journal platform migration
On 1 December the Royal Society journals, including the extensive archive dating back to 1665, moved to the hosting platform Silverchair. This move will enable us to improve user experience and to maximise the discoverability of our content for the scientific community. The new site delivers a modern user interface and analytics tools, future-proofing the platform for the ever-changing landscape of open access, new business models, data requirements, evolving technology and AI. We are excited about the benefits it will bring to our librarian customers, readers and authors.
Please find below further information that you might find useful regarding the new journal platform. Help can be found in our FAQs and queries can be directed to publishing@royalsociety.org.
Information for librarians
The new platform provides a more centralised administrator functionality for our institutional customers. Institutional administrators should navigate to the platform’s institutional admin dashboard and use the “Reset password” function the first time they log in to the new platform. Administrators should also check that the IP addresses within the dashboard are accurate.
A four-week access grace period is in place to ensure customers' access to our content is not interrupted during the migration.
If you have any questions that are specifically related to your institutional account, please visit our library hub, where you will find more information.
FAQs
Have user profiles been migrated?
Yes, wherever possible we have migrated user's accounts. Usernames have been retained, we would ask that users use the 'reset password' function when navigating to the platform for the first time.
Have the journal URLs changed?
Yes, journal URLs changed when we migrated to our new platform, permanent redirects are in place to direct users from the old URLs to the new URLs.
Have there be any changes to DOIs? Has the DOI registry be updated to reflect new URLs?
No changes have been made to article DOIs. The DOI registry will be updated to reflect the new URLs.
Will the RSS feeds I was using previously continue to feed to my RSS reader?
As our URLs have changed, the original RSS feeds will no longer feed to your RSS reader. You can set up new RSS feeds now the platform has launched.
Will my personal subscriptions and/or articles I have purchased still be accessible?
Yes, you will still be able to access your personal subscription, or any articles purchased pre-migration.
If I have published a paper with one of your journals, will the article usage data and metrics be retained?
Wherever possible we will try to transfer article usage and metrics across to our new platform.
Will I retain any eTOC, citation or article activity alerts I have signed up for?
Wherever possible we have tried to migrate any alerts that are associated with a user's profile. Citation alerts, saved search alerts, and topic alerts could not be migrated to our new platform. We recommend users re-register for any relevant alerts in the “My alerts” section of their user profile on our journal platform. While topic alerts are no longer available, you can set up saved search alerts for specific subject areas to achieve a similar experience. Please note that all alerts will now be sent on a weekly basis.
Who do I contact if I have any further questions?
If you have any migration-related questions that are not covered above, please email publishing@royalsociety.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
